I keep losing AI messages

If I "ctrl+i" for inline convo, I ask a question "summarize this code", I hit "esc" its gone forever.

Is there a way a conversation could ALWAYS be started so I never lose info or messages again? Better yet tabs of AI convos so I can have multiple going at once?

Have you tried pressing up/down? This will cycle through the history of messages.

If you want to put a conversation into a tab that you can come back to, click 'continue conversation' after it replies.
