Roadmap for cross platform (ubuntu/linux)?

I was actually surprised that there were more people using .Net on Mac compared to Linux.
Anyway, I am running LinqPad in W10 VM under Debian. Not optimal but sort of OK when you get used to it.
I did not have my hopes up but I though that XPF would do some magic for both Mac and Linux. However it seems like it is more complicated than that.

We are moving alot of functionality from Windows to Linux in our systems. Linux LinqPad really would help me and my team. Please feel free to charge extra for it!

Linux lprun would be really really useful, I could live with the struggle of writing cross platform scripts in Windows LINQPad.

@mcintyre321 What if LINQPad for Windows let you run scripts under WSL? Would that help?

We are also moving rapidly from Windows to Linux. While the macOS version is a very nice addition, most of our Mac devices are Intel based and we can't use the current macOS version either.
Overral, I think more and more .NET developers would move to Linux, so a Linux version would be a great deal.
Right now, we're trying to use NetPad, which is not mature (yet). -
Yeah, I agree would love to see this on Linux. There is a migration happening away from Windows for the average user. Most, of course, are heading to apple. I might make my main computer an apple if I cannot get a wine version or windows container version of LINQPad working, it's part of my test bench software. LINQPad not working on Mac at the time was the only reason I didn't switch to Mac last windows mess up, and now asking me to throw away my 6-year-old i7 ultra with a 3060 24gb of ram, raid 5 ssd storage, seems a bit wrong. It works really great now that I fixed the problem with it... windows...

According to https://forum.linqpad.net/discussion/3403/linqpad-9-early-preview-now-available (page 5) there are technical limitations right now which block linux support - but there is a tiny chance Avalonia/Microsoft will address this in future, so let's keep fingers crossed and post here if you want linux, so that the demand for a linux version is visible ;-)

I noticed the issues about website embedding on avalonia being a problem for linux. I simply wanted to add a +1 as someone that migrated from windows to Linux a few months ago. I'm a big fan of LinqPad and hope that it will be possible some day!
-
Well I deployed it using Wine on Linux Mint. So far it's working fine. Honestly, even if it crashed every 30 minutes I would be fine with that. And so I paid to upgrade to our 10 user license to Linqpad 9 which hopefully have all the Avalonia love and only get better! Thank you Joe for such an amazing tool!

That's great to hear! Can you post a screenshot and instructions?
-
I'll weigh in here as well for what it's worth. I've moved everything to Linux now. Linqpad is literally the only reason I still have Windows installed anywhere. I can't imagine going back. Native Linux support would be a dream come true.
-
Well, Wine is not working for me. Too many crashes. So I have ported over my linqpad scripts to CSX. Not as simple, but works well enough. I have loved linqpad for years, but going to eventually forget about it in my new linux world. Sorry Joe!

@JoeAlbahari what do you think about migrating the WPF codebase into Avalonia UI? This will enable you to port LinqPad to Linux. Maybe any IA coding agent can ease the transition, because WPF and Avalonia UI aren't all that different...
