Unable to start LinqPad 7

edited December 2021

When I try launching LinqPad 7, I get an error window saying "Could not initialize runtime" (title: "Unable to start LINQPad".

Not sure if this helps

  • Could you try re-installing .NET 6?

  • I can confirm that I experienced the same problem. However, while looking for an answer I did a VS update and then it went away. I didn't pay any attention to the runtime version though that was there before the update.

  • Ran into the same thing - solved by updating Visual Studio 2022 (17.0.4)

  • I have the same problem, but my Visual Studio is up to date. Also the dotnet6 runtime is the newest version.
    Got this Error:

  • Could you please try the latest beta (7.5.12) and re-post the data in the log file:
    https://www.linqpad.net/linqpad7.aspx#beta

The new beta put more diagnostic codes into the log.

On Windows 10 21H2, I get stuck in a loop at launching version 7.4.9 on the Download.NET screen. The screen says that my .NET version (6.0.11) is up to date. The buttons to launch LINQPad are enabled, but when I click one, it brings me back to the Download.NET screen.

    The start.txt log shows:

2022-11-10 13:16:47 PromptForFxInstall: No compatible .NET installations found.
No .linq file specified in command-line args

I assume this is all a bit related.

  • Most likely, your .NET 6 desktop installation is incomplete. Re-install .NET 6 desktop (you can do this by clicking the 'Download Runtime - x64' button).

That worked, but not really sure why. The .NET 6.0.11 I had locally came installed from via Visual Studio 2022 17.4. Hopefully VS-driven .NET updates don't cause issues. Thanks!
